The Franklin High Band ended its 2015 marching band season in Indianapolis last weekend at the Bands of America Grand Nationals Championship, competing with 95 of the best marching bands in the country from 22 states.

Franklin secured a spot in the semifinals competition for the fourth year in a row, and won second-place honors for Class AAA. Twelve finalist bands were selected based on overall scores, and Franklin’s score of 89.05 earned it 13th place in the nation.

Franklin’s semifinal placement skyrocketed this year, from 21st last year, and its overall score improved by almost seven points, putting the Franklin group within sight of their goal of Grand Nationals Finalist by 2021.

Franklin started the season Sept. 19 at the BOA Regional Championship in Clarksville. Franklin took the Outstanding Music Performance award, first place in class AAA and placed third overall.

On Oct. 24, Franklin took second place in class AAA and won the Outstanding Music Performance award in their class at the Indianapolis BOA Super-Regional competition. On Oct. 31, Franklin placed first in the 54th Annual MTSU Contest of Champions, with a score of 91.15, and reclaimed the Tennessee Governors Cup for the third time in four years.

The Franklin Band is a 2014 recipient of the prestigious Sudler Shield, presented by the John Philip Sousa Foundation to high school, youth, and international marching bands of world class excellence.

Franklin continues their tradition of excellence as they prepare for Tennessee Mid-State Band auditions, Winter Guard competitions, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Band, Chamber Music, 9th Grade Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble.
