Jazzmania 2015 Franklin TNIt’s that time again!! Mark your calendars for Jazzmania 2015, the annual fall jazz party and fundraiser. The event will again be held this year in Liberty Hall at The Factory in Franklin and will happen Saturday, October 24, from 6:00 to 10:00 pm.

The ticket price includes food and complimentary wine.  Please visit JAZZMANIA to purchase tickets.

Jazzmania 2015 is the Jazz Party of the Year and will feature fine food from Sargent’s Fine Catering and complimentary wine, beer, and signature cocktail courtesy of Lipman Brothers.

Music this year will be provided by a special 10-piece all-star ensemble of some of the NJW’s finest jazz faculty and performing artists. The ensemble will be directed by Denis Solee with arrangements by the incomparable Jeff Steinberg. Featured soloists will include vocalistChristina Watson and trumpeter Rod McGaha.

The event will include a live and silent auction, with unique and desirable items that include vacation packages, tickets to top events, special dinner packages, in-home concerts, artwork by the city’s top artists, and much more.

A distinctive feature of our silent auction is Small Works – a collection of small canvases with paintings by some of the area’s top artists, produced especially for this event. Guests will enjoy browsing the works and placing bids on their top picks in fun competition with other patrons – the ultimate proceeds going entirely to benefit the mission of the Workshop.

The Honorary Event Chairperson for Jazzmania this year is Beegie Adair, one of the best-known and most revered figures on the city’s jazz scene for over 40 years. Beegie’s music is heard and loved around the country and around the world. Jazz fans come from across the country to attend her monthly performances in the Jazz Cave! Beegie also holds a place of honor in the Nashville Jazz Workshop’s history — she was one of the first Board members and taught some of our first vocal classes. She was also the first recipient of the NJW Heritage Award, in 2008. We are excited to celebrate Beegie and her jazz legacy.

All proceeds from Jazzmania go to support the operation of the Jazz Workshop, including classes, performances, and community outreach activities for youth, seniors, and the entire community.

BOWIE PARK’S STARLIGHT JAMS

Starlight-Jam-Flyer-July-2015-Howlin-brothersFairview Parks Department is happy to announce that The Howlin’ Brothers will be headlining the Starlight Jam on July 24th. The Howlin’ Brothers are a Nashville based string band composed of Ian Craft, Jared Green, and JT Huskey. Anchored in a bed of old-time blues and bluegrass, their upbeat shows are heavy with original and traditional music, featuring the sounds of slide banjo, harmonica and old-time fiddle. Sounding like what would happen if a bunch of Appalachian punk rockers formed a jug-band, The Howlin’ Brothers play with a ferocious energy that drags you in and finds you boogieing along in spite of yourself. Rolling Stone – included The Howlin’ Brothers album TROUBLE in “The 26 Albums of 2014 You Probably Didn’t But Really Should Hear”.

The Starlight Jam is a concert series at Bowie Park that include picking parties that started in April and will run through October. Each month will include live Americana music on the main stage. Pickers are encouraged to bring their instruments and find a spot under the trees to jam. The goal is to provide a place for musicians to get together and play and for music lovers to have a place to go and enjoy great music in a laid back, family friendly environment under the stars.

Starlight Jam is located outside under the stars in Bowie Nature Park from 7-10PM, with gates opening up at 6:30PM. Opening for The Howlin’ Brothers at 7pm will be a very talented student from Fairview Guitar and Repair: Julia Evaskis.
