Hunter Hayes and Zappos Pair Music with Charity for “Rescue”

Five-time GRAMMY nominee and double platinum selling artist Hunter Hayes released his first new music of 2017 today with the soaring and electric guitar-driven track “Rescue.” An artist who has always stressed the importance of helping others through the power of music, Hayes has also partnered with Zappos.com to create shoes that give back. “The Rescue Collection” is a limited line that features artwork inspired by the song’s accompanying music video, which is also available everywhere today. Hayes shared an exclusive behind-the-scenes look with Entertainment Tonight this morning and also went into in-depth detail about the song’s inspiration with The Washington Post.

“I’ve always loved what music and charity organizations can do together, and I think the tie in with this song is undeniable,” said Hayes. “We’ve had the opportunity to work with so many awesome charities over the years and I realized that, to me, they are exactly that: rescues. They are places of refuge for so many people who need a friend to help them through something or to be there for them. We’ve seen the power of music in so many ways and I wanted ‘Rescue’ to be a song that we used for good.”

All profits from “The Rescue Collection” will be donated to Zappos for Good, the charity team at Zappos.com.  These limited edition shoes will be available during the holiday season and benefit a number of charitable initiatives including the CMA Foundation, the charitable giving arm of the Country Music Association that’s focused on improving and sustaining music education programs everywhere, and Zappos’ annual Pawlidayz pet adoption drive.

“We are thrilled about our partnership with Hunter and have been wowed by his sincere interest in helping the world to be a better place by using his music to inspire others. We are grateful to work with partners who share our values and commitment,” said Steven Bautista, Head of Charity at Zappos.com, known as Zappos for Good.

The shoes will be available starting December 2017 exclusively on Zappos.com. All shoes will be accompanied by a digital download code for “Rescue” and a personalized lyric sheet from Hayes. Until then, fans can see Hayes perform “Rescue” and other new music live on tour throughout the summer, with full dates and details below.

New Balance 3D Printed Performance Running Shoe Midsole

Through an exclusive collaboration with 3D Systems and their newly developed elastomeric powder, DuraForm® Flex TPU, New Balance has made significant advancements in the performance of printed parts for running shoes. The new midsoles leverage the benefits of 3D printing and breakthroughs in materials science to achieve an optimal balance of flexibility, strength, weight and durability. This limited edition, state-of-the-art running shoe will launch first in Boston in April 2016 and then in select New Balance retail locations around the globe. The shoes will also be on display and in use by employees in the 3D Systems booth at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January.

The latest designs of the 3D printed midsole are based on underfoot pressure data from heel strikers with more cushioning elements in areas of higher average pressure. This data to design formula follows the path that New Balance designers used to create the award winning Fresh Foam collection. For midsole production, New Balance uses selective laser sintering (SLS), a process which converts new powder materials into solid cross-sections, layer by layer, using a laser. DuraForm® Flex TPU powder gives the resulting parts a previously unavailable combination of strength and elasticity that is ideal for performance running shoes.

“This project represents an unprecedented technical collaboration in footwear”, says Sean Murphy New Balance Senior Manager of Innovation and Engineering. “To deliver this level of performance with a 3D printed component, we paired experts in running and biomechanics with leaders in plastics engineering, material development and generative design. These are the types of collaborations that will drive footwear design and manufacturing in the future.”

In 2013 New Balance was the first athletic brand to have a track athlete, middle distance runner Jack Bolas, compete with data-customized, 3D printed spike plates. Since then Team New Balance athletes have continued to compete in custom, printed spikes including US Olympic Athlete Kim Conley at the 2014 USATF Outdoor National Championships where she came in first in the 10,000m. Beyond Track & Field New Balance has also created customized soccer cleats and baseball spikes for its elite athletes. New Balance soccer star Aaron Ramsey wore a bespoke boot with printed plates in the FA Cup Final on May 30, 2015. New Balance continues to expand data customization with elite athletes and expects more athletes to test out customized products in practice and games in the near future.

“In 2013 we said this was the future of footwear manufacturing and today we are proud to bring the future to consumers with a fully 3D printed midsole,” says New Balance President and CEO Robert DeMartini. “With 3D printing we are able to pursue performance customization at a whole new level. The New Balance Innovation Team is showcasing the latest in performance running and these advancements signify an important step forward to becoming one of the world’s top athletic brands.”

Franklin Firefighters’ eighth annual Christmas Toy and Clothing Drive is underway

As you’re making a list and checking it twice, Franklin Firefighters are hoping you’ll consider adding a gift for a child who’s part of their eighth annual Christmas Toy and Clothing Drive.

The Franklin Firefighters kicked off the drive this week, with gift requests of more than 300 Williamson County children adorning the holiday fire hydrant displays outside Franklin fire stations and Franklin City Hall.

Franklin Fire Captain Clay Mackey said the toy and clothing drive has provided coats, clothes, shoes and toys to hundreds of children each year since 2008.  He said the recipients are identified by representatives of the Williamson County Chapter of the Boys and Girls Club of Middle Tennessee, who work with other charities to prevent duplication of efforts.

To participate, select a gift request card from one of the displays and purchase the single item requested on the card.  Return new, unwrapped gifts with the card attached to a fire station or City Hall by Sunday, Dec. 6.

Monetary donations are also accepted at Franklin Fire Administration in City Hall or Avenue Bank.  Checks should be made payable to Franklin Firefighters Charities.  All contributions are tax deductible.

For more information please contact the Franklin Fire Department at 615-791-3270 or visit www.FranklinFirefightersCharities.org.
