Franklin Art Scene Returns on Friday Oct. 5th with a Bountiful Harvest of Art

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Fall has finally arrived, and Franklin Art Scene returns on Friday, Oct. 5 from 6-9 p.m. for an evening of crisp weather and more than 30 sites hosting a variety of artists for this month’s art crawl. The Franklin Art Scene is held on the first Friday of every month to highlight the local arts scene in Franklin.                                                                            

Featured artists in the September Art Scene include:

  • Finnleys, located at 435 Main St., will host artist Emily Cooper, whose inspiration comes from her love of the beauty of nature as a reflection of the ultimate Creator, as well as her lifelong study of the Masters.
  • Franklin First United Methodist Church, located at 148 Fifth Ave. S., will feature artwork of the students from Oak Hill Elementary School and the art of Mrs. Susie Irvin, who was a cornerstone in the city of Franklin and a beloved member of FUMC. Susie’s family members will be on hand to honor her memory and her mission, along with many pieces from her personal collection.
  • Gallery 202, located at 202 2nd S., will feature artists Emily Allison, who creates unique three-dimensional figurative sculptures and abstract painter Julie Harvey, who is known for her bold style and characteristic use of texture.
  • Hope Church, located at 137 Fourth Ave S., will host artist Peggy Reeves who uses elements of fine acrylic paint, oil pastels, inks, heavy textures, and glazes in her creations.
  • Imaginebox Emporium, located at 311 N. Margin St., will showcase the original illustrations of Cory Basil for his young reader novel The Perils of Fishboy, as well as his other creations using mediums such as watercolor, oil and gauche.
  • John M. Green Realty, LLC located at 118 4th Ave will display the charming ceramic work of Janeth McKendrick and the work of Alexandra Wolf who creates original art using antique images she restores, hand paints, and collages in to little scenes of life..
  • Living Franklin located at 100 4th N., will showcase the musically inspired, abstract art of Caitlin Boldt.
  • ONYX & ALABASTER located at 134 2nd N., will display the optical art of Gina Julian, who creates the perception of three-dimensional space on a two-dimensional surface.
  • Parks Realty, located at 415 Main St., will feature furniture maker, woodworker and host, executive producer and co-creator of “The Highland Woodworker”, Chuck Brock.
  • Riverside Franklin located at 144 Bridge St., will showcase Amy Tavares of Funny Girl Wreaths. Amy creates gorgeous wreaths, hand painted wooden door hangers & bows for all season and occasions.
  • Rock Paper Scissors located at 317 Main St. #110, will host watercolor artist, Emily Williams, who specializes in loose florals and house portraits.
  • Tin Cottage, located at 334 Main St., will display the work of artist Erin Alise, who chooses to focus her illustrations on the everyday magic around us.
  • Twine Graphics and Screen Printing, located at 304 Public Square, will feature artist Roy Laws, The Painter of Music. Through his artistic interpretations of vintage guitars, rock and roll icons, and outlawed country legends, each piece is etched in vibrant textures and colors.
  • Visit Franklin located at 400 Main St., #200, will feature the unique, handcrafted, locally sourced woodwork of Phil Kunze.
  • Williamson County Archives, located at 611 W Main St., will display the fun & quirky animal illustrations of Shelby Burr.

The Franklin Art Scene invites lovers of the arts to stop by all participating locations during the evening’s crawl. The Art Scene trolley is also available for free rides throughout the event, sponsored by Genesis of Cool Springs. Franklin Art Scene Downtown TNA free, monthly art crawl that takes participants through downtown Franklin’s historic buildings, and celebrates Williamson County’s unique artistic talent!

The first Friday of each month, the Downtown Franklin Association presents the Franklin Art Scene, which includes dozens of sites dispersed through an area thriving with spots listed on the National Register of Historic Places in downtown Franklin. The free event celebrates Williamson County’s local craftsmanship, and provides both the novice and the art connoisseur an opportunity to see a sweeping variety of magnificent work–from blown glass to turned wood to mixed media and more.

Many of the galleries and working studios serve complimentary refreshments during the evening, and some offer live music.

Art crawl guests may begin at any participating location on the map: Free trolley rides, provided by Williamson Source, circulate among all the stops, and patrons can jump on and off at will from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come be seen at the Scene!

Downtown Franklin, TN Art Crawl

art crawlThe Franklin Art Scene will open its doors this Friday with fabulous art to view for all.  The first-Friday art crawl, which has consistently grown in attendance since its 2011 conception, will feature 30-plus participating locations in Historic Franklin Tennessee’s core. Art Scene locations are dispersed throughout downtown, including the antique district and spots up and down Columbia Avenue. There is no set starting point for art crawl participants; guests are encouraged to begin at any map location. Trolleys circulate among all the stops throughout the night, and $5 buys an unlimited wristband to jump on and off at will from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

In addition to an online map and QR code, a Franklin Art Scene smartphone application is now available on Google Play. The download gives users up-to-date information on the upcoming art crawl and its locations.

Some highlights of the November 1 event include:

  • Just off Columbia Avenue, Damico Frame & Art Gallery will showcase work by Jennie Schut, a local painter who has shown her work throughout the state. As an artist, Schut perceives the many relationships active in an engaging piece of work and uses light and dark, smooth and rough, colorful and dull elements to create her masterpieces.
  • Savory Spice Shop, a new boutique spice store on Main Street, is hosting local acrylic artist Roy Laws. Laws offers artistic interpretations of vintage guitars, rock n’ roll icons and outlaw country legends.
  • The Williamson County CVB Vistor Center at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Main Street is hosting “visual jazz” painter JD Wise, who appreciates the modern, mid-century style of the ‘60s.
  • Heirloom Shop is hosting painter Maia Ketterbaugh at its Main Street shop, and artist who paints still-life objects in an oil medium.
  • On the Public Square, Boutique MMM will display pieces by Laurel Nash, a jewelry artist and silversmith who primarily works with leather.
  • On Second Avenue North, antiques store T. Nesbitt & Co. is offering a look at Cynthia Birdsong’s work. Birdsong will display her mixed-media pieces. As an artist, she has taught adults and children at Cheekwood Botanical Garden for nearly 20 years.
  • Bagbey House on Fourth Avenue North is showcasing several of their in-house local artists in November, including Debbie Smartt, Lisa Hayward and Jill Harper.
  • O’More College of Design on S. Margin Street hosted a scholarship competition for high school students across the state this fall. The Verve show

graphic design submissions will be displayed alongside a professional exhibit in the College’s fine art gallery.

  • Gallery 202 on Second Avenue South is exhibiting fresh work from Nashville, Tennessee painter Diane Davich Craig and Franklin-based jewelry artist Paula Barnett.

In 2011, a group of Downtown Franklin Association (DFA) members launched the monthly Franklin Art Scene to promote local talent and community relationships in Historic Downtown Franklin, Tenn.
