Color Wheels- You & Me Paint Night

Join us for a fun night of adult + child partner art inspired by the heart art of Jim Dine. Open to grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, etc. Paint a pair of canvases that fit together to create a colorful piece you are both sure to love!   Meets Friday, February 2 at the   Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. For children ages 5 to 12. Color Wheels-Homeschool Art Class

Each week, students in this ongoing art class will explore art history, techniques, styles and artists from the past and present. A variety of media will be used to create rich experiences for each child.  Instructor: Shelly Egly. Color Wheels for homeschoolers meets Fridays, February 2-23 (skip 2/16)  from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. Sticky Fingers Preschool Art Club

Enhance and celebrate you preschooler’s creativity by enrolling them in the Sticky Fingers Preschool Art Club at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. Ms. Shelly offers educational art experiences geared to young children (ages 3 to 6, potty-trained), with 2 to 3 works of art completed in each class. Piano

Mommy & Me Movement

Bring the kids, ages 0-4 months for a fun and energetic 30-minute movement class. Moms and kids will dance, sing, bond and make memories. Dads, grandparents and caregivers are welcome.  Mommy & Me Movement meets on Mondays from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd.  General admission fees apply. (Class is free to all premium family pass holders.)

Join the fun as students explore art history, techniques, styles, and famous artists from past to present.  This class is for kids 5 to 11 years, and meets Wednesdays, February 7-28 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The fee is $58. Preschool Musical Theatre

Theatre professional Julia Nolan leads this fun Preschool Musical Theatre class for ages 3-5 years. Learn songs and dances along with theatre games to perform for parents, family and friends. Class meets Wednesdays, February 7-28 at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The course fee is $48 and registration is open at www.wcparksandrec.com (activity # 10807).

 

Babysitting 101

A fun interactive class that trains 12-16 year olds to be the best babysitter in the neighborhood.  This one-day course teaches sitters how to handle common problems, how to be safe, first aid techniques, and playtime ideas.   Includes a Smart Kids workbook. January 2018 Classes for all ages

The Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd., has fun classes for kids and adults. In January, try a manners class for kids, or register for guitar lessons.   All classes are open to the public, and registration is available at www.wcparksandrec.com.

 

Polite Kids 101

This basic manners class teaches students ages 7-10 years old to stay on track with kind and respectful living. Topics include introducing yourself, setting a table, being a polite guest and party manners. Includes a light lunch. Polite Kids 101 meets Wednesday, January 3 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the recreation center in Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd. Wiggles & Giggles

Drop your child off in the gym on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. for our free Wiggles and Giggles supervised play time (ages 3-6 years). Parent must stay in the rec center and use the facility. Wiggles & a Giggles is free with a family pass or general admission. The Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville.

 

Guitar Lessons

Learn to play the guitar in 30-minute private lessons on Thursdays at the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville. Instructor Phil Mikel will tailor the lessons to the student’s skill levels and interests. For ages 7 through adults. $30 per lesson.  To register, contact Phil Mikel at 615-649-1898.

 

Barre

Barre combines ballet, Pilates and yoga to develop beautifully sculpted lean muscles. Barre uses intense isometric training with low-impact moves that focus on balance, lengthening and strengthening. No dance experience is required.  This 60-minute class is offered at the Williamson County Recreation Complex at Nolensville, 7250 Nolensville Rd., on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00 a.m. and Saturdays at 8:05 a.m.  Please register in advance at www.wcparksandrec.com.

 

Art with Kreative Kat

Kids, ages 6 to 14, come join the fun creating beautiful art! Everyone can be an artist in this class, as the instructor ‘Kat’ helps students realize their potential.  Kat teaches mainly drawing, watercolor, and acrylics. Franklin, TN – Williamson County Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce a number of new  community classes for youth and adults at the new Williamson County Enrichment Center at Academy Park, 110 Everbright Ave. All classes are fee based and open to the public. TEEN/ADULT CLASSES

Painting with Yara Stagner

Are you interested in finding your inner painter? Join the fun in this introductory class to oil and acrylic painting techniques. The class is new to the Enrichment Center, and will be offered on an ongoing basis on Mondays, starting September 4. Each class is $20 and no pre-registration is needed.  New students can join at any time. Call instructor for supply list: 615-485-9839. The class meets from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mondays at the Williamson County Enrichment Center, 110 Everbright Ave. in Franklin.

Basic Drawing

Adults can learn to draw in this drop-in class on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Williamson County Enrichment Center at Academy Park, 110 Everbright Ave. Learn the basics of drawing: perspective, value, color and texture. Each class will include a drawing exercise such as a face, animal or landscape.  Classes are $15 each and will meet on Tuesdays. No advance registration is required-just pay the class fee at the front desk of the center.

 

BE YOU! A To-Do List Makeover

Learn how to make everything you do meaningful and discover YOU!  Find out what your  unique gifts and skills are and be happy in the present. Make your do’s, don’ts and needs reflect your hopes and dreams. Introduction to Screenwriting

Students will learn the fundamentals of screenwriting including building characters and developing a story arc. Instructor Rebecca George will lead students through the steps of creating a finished short film script by the end of the course. Life is a Cabaret-Musical Theatre Performance

In this fun class, students will learn stage and performance technique from professional international singer and actress Mia Rose Lynne. Students will be coached on a minimum of two songs (please bring your ideas) and participate in a performance at the end of the course. Life is a Cabaret meets Tuesdays, September 5-26 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (adults & seniors, activity #10326) or from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (ages 13-18, activity #10327). Let’s Write a Song- Songwriting Course

No previous experience is needed in this class where students will write their own original song lyrics.  The instructor will assist with adding melody and accompaniment as needed.   Taught by professional international singer and actress Mia Rose Lynne. Tap Dancing for Adults

You are never too old to learn to tap! Learn to use subtext for lyrics in songs, make it real for you and the audience. Card Making with Varada-Watercolor

Perfect for a beginner or experienced paper crafter.  Explore your creativity and learn how to create handmade, unique greeting cards using different techniques and holiday themes.  Card Making with Varada meets Mondays, September 11-30 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. or Saturdays, September 16-30 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Williamson County Enrichment Center at Academy Park, 110 Everbright Ave.  Themes for September are: 3D Crafts, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. Flowers and Abstracts that Pop

This art workshop focuses on creating impressionist floral designs that literally POP off the canvas!  Bold color choices mixed with unique designs and texture will help participants bring authenticity to their work. Floral Watercolors


In this intermediate watercolor class, students will paint from a live floral subject. Students will learn to sketch out what they see and learn to paint the layers to create a stunning watercolor floral painting. Students should have a basic knowledge of watercolor or have some experience in the medium. Sketching skills will be taught in class. Bring your own supplies. The Friends of the Williamson County Public Library will hold their first book sale of 2017 on March 3rd, 4th & 5th, Friday, Saturday 9am – 4:30pm & Sunday all day bag sale 1pm-4:30pm. The Members Only Preview Sale will be on Thursday evening March 2nd from 5-7pm.

We will have literally thousands of new and used donated books for sale including paperbacks, hardcovers, Fiction, Non-Fiction, Children, Teen & Young Adult books, Antique/Vintage books, Coffee table books, and various media items such as audio books, CD’s, and DVD’s. All books will be neatly sorted by subject and arranged by category. Prices range from 50-cents to $5.00 each, and there are no buyer restrictions. We accept cash, check, Visa & MasterCard.

In 2016 Friends of WCPL donated over $20,000 to the Williamson County Public Library. We hope to exceed that amount in 2017. Proceeds from this sale, along with your generous donations, will go to fund The Friends of the Library which is dedicated to help support the Williamson County Public Library.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Auditions

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department’s award-winning children’s theatre group, the Star Bright Players, present open auditions for “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” on Sunday, September 18 at Freedom Middle School Theatre, 750 Highway 96 West.  Auditions for new participants in Star Bright will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by returning Star Bright Player auditions from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

For this production, all children must be age 7 through high school seniors at the time of the audition. Children may arrive anytime during these time periods, but must be prepared to wait. The director is looking for children who are vocal and expressive. Children will need to be able to sing a song in the Musical Theatre genre and may bring sheet music or a CD/iPod with music to sing along with if they choose. Some children may be “called back” for a second audition to be held on Monday, September 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Freedom Middle School.

“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.  Production dates will be December 1-4.

 

Rehearsals for “Chitty Chitty Band Bang” will be held at Freedom Middle School on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for nine weeks. If cast, children must be able to meet the commitments of this rehearsal schedule. There is a $75 activity fee for all children cast in the show (includes costume rental and cast t-shirt).
