More than a dozen entertainers will perform in a Veterans Day concert at Franklin LIVE, a new live entertainment venue in downtown Franklin, TN, located at 408 Church Street. The event will begin at 6:30 PM CST, at which time it will also be streamed live on the web at www.FranklinLive.net.  All proceeds from the Franklin LIVE! event will benefit S.A.V.E. XXII, a non-profit organization that supports Veterans, especially combat Veterans.

The Veterans Day concert will feature multi-talented singers and songwriters who have earned numerous awards including Artist of the Year, Best Country Live Performer, and Best Duo/Group. Some of these entertainers, top-selling songwriters, and emerging artists include: Billy Dawson, The Darlins, Tanya Davis, George Ducas, Dave Gibson, Jasmine Cain, Anthony Adams & the Nite Owls, Greg Pratt, Gunner S. Scott, Gabriel Wren, Gale Mayes, and a surprise guest performer.

According to S.A.V.E. XXII, our debt to heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. Every single day, war follows our Veterans home, and while we enjoy the freedoms these brave men and women secured for us, their battle continues every day. Now, it’s our turn to fight for them! They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices, as patriotically stated by President Harry S. Truman.

S.A.V.E. XXII promotes awareness of the problems facing our U.S. Veterans, many of whom are experiencing unexpected financial and other dangerous situations which call for immediate action.

Tickets for the concert are $22. For more information or to purchase a ticket, go to www.franklinlive.net.  Certified onsite childcare is available.
How can you help S.A.V.E.?  You can visit our home page, www.SAVEXXII.org. We will always have list of events so you will know where S.A.V.E. XXII will be and how you can support it. The long-term answer is that we cannot do this alone. That’s where YOU come in! By staying updated with our website, what really makes the difference is YOU. Eventually, every year our organization’s goal is to increase our contributions to our Veterans, but we can go nowhere and do nothing without your support. Simply put, our vision is this:
Selfless-service, Advocacy, Veteran, Emergency! We will always be there… we will always fight… we will always win for those that matter the MOST!

After National Search, City Hires Maryville Finance Professional to Position

Franklin—City of Franklin Assistant City Administrator/Chief Financial Officer Russ Truell announced his retirement earlier this year which will be effective December 15.  Truell has worked for the city for the last 13 years and oversees the following departments:  Water ManagementSanitation and Environmental ServicesFinance; Information TechnologyMunicipal CourtPurchasing; and Transit.  Truell received a B.E. in Engineering from Vanderbilt University and a Master’s degree from the University of London.  Truell has worked in both the public and private sectors.  He began his career with Franklin in 2004 as the Finance Director. In the fall of 2007, Russ was named Assistant City Administrator for Finance.

“It has been a pleasure working with the entire city team over the last thirteen years. When I started I was asked what I wanted to accomplish for the City and my first reaction was that I wanted to leave the city in better shape than how I found it.  I feel I have accomplished that.  Franklin is poised for continued growth and I wish the city enormous success with future projects.” Said Truell.

“Russ Truell has made tremendous contributions to the community and our organization including obtaining Triple-A bond ratings from both Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s, developing the tax increment financing district which helped to bring Nissan to Franklin, leading the development of important financial policies with our Board, and initiating important strategic efforts to stabilize and improve the City’s employee pension system to name a few,” said City Administrator Eric Stuckey.   “Russ has been an outstanding member of our City team.  We are pleased that he will continue to assist us with the transition after his retirement.”

After an extensive national search City Administrator Eric Stuckey has hired Kristine Tallent from Maryville, Tennessee to fill the position of Assistant City Administrator/Chief Financial Officer.  Tallent currently serves as Director of Management and Budget for the City of Maryville, Tennessee.  Prior to her service in Maryville, Tallent worked for Gwinnett County, Georgia as Budget Director.  She has also worked in the private sector for Public Financial Management as a Senior Managing Consultant.  Tallent holds a Master of Science in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University and a Bachelor of Arts from Maryville College.

“I am humbled for the opportunity to join the team of the City of Franklin, one of the most highly regarded places to live in the State of Tennessee.  With its long tradition of sound financial management and services of the highest quality, the City of Franklin has long been an example of best practices for local governments across our state and even the nation.   I look forward to working together with elected officials, administration and staff to continue the highest quality of life expected by the residents of the city,” said Tallent.

“Kristine Tallent will be a great asset to the City of Franklin as we move forward,” said City Administrator Stuckey.  “We look forward to adding Kristine to our City Leadership Team. She is not only a skilled professional, but also a respected leader in her profession.”  In addition to her strong professional background, she was recently selected as an Executive Committee member for the Tennessee Government Finance Officers Association (TGFOA) and has been appointed to the prestigious Debt Committee of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).  She is also a board member of the Tennessee Chapter of Women in Public Finance.

Franklin TN Events - Celebration of Nations

Celebration of Nations – October 8th, 2016 – Historic Downtown Franklin, TN

On October 8th from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. the Sister Cities of Franklin and Williamson County will present the eighth annual “Celebration of Nations” festival in downtown Franklin, TN.  The mission of the Celebration of Nations is to create global and cultural passion, beginning with a personal knowledge and understanding of the interconnectedness of people universally.  They believe one way to accomplish this goal is through genuine artistic and sensory representations of various nations.  This unique affair will consist of booths featuring different products and techniques used around the world.  Booths will be displaying representation of one or more cultures.  Food and beverages from a variety of nations will also be available.

The event will take place on 4th Avenue South (in front of the parking garage) and the connecting alley from 4th Avenue to the Historic Williamson County Courthouse.  Two stages featuring music and dance from around the globe will be seen and heard throughout the day.  At 7:30 p.m. this year’s headliner, “San Rafael Band” featuring Rafael Vasquez will take the stage.

Vasquez is a talented songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist who is comfortable with a variety of instruments and styles ranging from conjunto’s bajo sexton, jazz, classical, blues and rock, and has been in high demand for years.  In the last few years Vasquez has begun to work with students at Belmont University and in the Metro Nashville Public Schools to share his knowledge of music and Hispanic culture.  Fluent in both English and Spanish, Rafael is a tremendous asset to the “Música de la gente” – “Music of the People program”.  This is a great entertainer with an amazing band that you don’t want to miss!

Starting at 4 p.m. a variety of international beers and wines from 15 different countries will be available individually for six dollars.  The rest of the festival’s activities are free and open to the public.
