The FiftyForward Martin Center is pleased to announce that Grammy-award winner Amy Grant will headline the 10th Annual Music and Memories concert on Tuesday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. benefiting the FiftyForward Martin Center. Amy Grant’s career spans more than 30 years and stretches from her roots in gospel to becoming an iconic pop star, songwriter, television personality and philanthropist. With three multi-platinum albums, six platinum albums and four gold albums, her total career album sales exceed 30 million. In addition to six Grammy Awards, Grant has earned 26 Dove Awards and has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Tickets are $100 for the VIP package, which includes wine, hors d’oeuvres and an opportunity to meet Grant from 5:30 – 7 p.m. at the FiftyForward Martin Center in Brentwood, transportation to the Franklin Theatre for the 7:30 p.m. concert and transportation back to the Martin Center. Concert only tickets are $60.
The VIP package goes on sale Tuesday April 21 and may be purchased by calling the Martin Center at 615-376-0102.

Vintage Baseball
June 21, 2015 – Double header – 12:00 pm & 2:30 pm
After nearly 150 years, a Civil War-era style of baseball will once again be played in Tennessee. Vintage base ball (yes, it was two words in the 1860s) was revived in the Mid-South when the Tennessee Association of Vintage Base Ball was formed in 2013. Carnton Plantation is pleased to be the home field for the Franklin Farriers. The base ball games are free to the public.

The 4th Annual Westhaven Porchfest is scheduled for June 20, 2015. This year’s event will include 26 porches throughout the community with over 100 musicians, representing a wide variety of musical genres. Kicking off at 4:00 PM, musicians will perform on the front porches around the community, while the audience moves from place to place to take in all the music. At 7:00 PM, the music moves to the big stage on the lake to wrap up the evening with Tim Akers and The Smoking Section. Food trucks will be on hand at both the Westhaven Residents’ Club and in the Town Center to provide refreshments. In addition, all the restaurants in the Town Center will be serving up Porchfest specials!

On Wednesday, July 8,Franklin Tomorrow will host its second FrankTalks event, featuring a discussion on greenways and trail development in our community. This will come just after the release June 23 of the draft of the City of Franklin’s Parks Master Plan update. A survey conducted as part of the update showed a high level of interest by citizens in the development of trails and greenways throughout our community.
Our speaker will be Ron Carter, longtime Carmel, Ind., city councilman and former executive director of the Greenways Foundation of Central Indiana. While on the Council, Carter has been instrumental in helping Mayor James Brainard complete the Monon Trail in Carmel.
Since the Monon Trail opened in June 1996, hundreds of thousands of people have traveled its 15.7 miles from 10th Street in Indianapolis, north through Carmel and to 146th Street in Westfield. The Monon Trail has been inducted into Rails-to-Trails Conservancy’s Rail-Trail Hall of Fame.
An avid bike rider, Carter has worked to make sure that bicycle and pedestrian facilities have been added to the city wherever possible. He will speak on the impact of trails and greenways on a community, as well as to the specifics of developing a greenways plan and network through residential and commercial areas.
Attendance at the event is limited due to the location at the Eastern Flank Battlefield Park clubhouse, which is located off Lewisburg Pike adjacent to Carnton Plantation. Franklin—Elementary, middle and high school age children are invited to participate in the first annual Franklin Kids Arts Festival of Tennessee. The festival is looking for artists, dancers, musicians, vocalists, actors, poets, photographers and artisans to participate in the event put on by the City of Franklin Parks Department and the Williamson County Cultural Arts Commission. The Festival will offer many opportunities for school-aged artists of Franklin, and surrounding communities, including: A juried art exhibit, hand-crafted art for sale, stage performances, master classes, art stops to experience and create unique art, and more! Youth artists participating in the hand-crafted art sale will be mentored by participating professional art vendors. Student art will be displayed throughout the event, judged, and winners presented cash awards, as well as the opportunity to exhibit in Franklin City Hall throughout the summer months. Participants will have the opportunity to develop new artistic skills and talents from professional artists through master classes.
The first annual Franklin Kids Arts Festival of Tennessee is free festival and open to the public. It will take place on Saturday, June 6th 2015 from 10am to 5pm in Pinkerton Park across the footbridge from Historic Downtown Franklin.
