The TMA Group (Transportation Management Association) is pleased to welcome Chris Czarka, Director of Tax with Nissan North America, Inc., and Glenn McGehee, Principal and President with SouthStar Development.
Patrick G. Emery, TMA Chairman, said: “Throughout the history of the Transportation Management Association (TMA) we have had a very qualified and engaged board. We continue this tradition with the addition of Chris and Glenn to the TMA board. Both Chris and Glenn are active in the Cool Springs area with their respective businesses and their knowledge of the area will be of great benefit to the organization and the implementation of the recent Cool Springs Transportation Study and the future growth of the TMA organization.
Chris Czarka
Director of Tax, Nissan North America.
Regarding his appointment to The TMA Board of Directors, Mr. Czarka states:” “I am honored to have the opportunity to serve on the TMA board. As a regional leader in transportation solutions for employers and communities in Middle Tennessee, the organization is ideally suited to be an integral part of transportation challenges we currently face now or will face in the future in Williamson County, especially in the Cool Springs area. This just seemed like a natural progression to some of the work I have been involved with as chairman of the Williamson Inc. board of directors in 2015.”
With over 30 years of tax experience, Czarka joined Nissan’s Tax group in January 2007. Previously he spent 20 years at Dana Corporation with the last 15 years serving as the Vice President of Global Tax. Czarka originally started with PricewaterhouseCoopers. A native of Detroit, Michigan, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Accounting from Central Michigan University and is a certified public accountant. Czarka currently serves on the Williamson Inc. Board of Directs and the 2015 Board Chairman. Chris served on the Board of Directors of the Williamson/Franklin Chamber of Commerce and was heavily involved with the creation of Williamson Inc., the Williamson County Chamber of Commerce that was created through the merger of three local chambers. He is a frequent speaker at PwC’s Industrial Products/Automotive Industry Tax Roundtables and the BNA/Bloomberg and Baker & McKenzie U.S. and Canadian Transfer Pricing Symposiums.
Glenn McGehee
Principal and President, SouthStar Development
Regarding his appointment to The TMA Board of Directors, Mr. McGehee states: “I take great pride in being a resident of the Franklin community for over 22 years. As president and partner of SouthStar, we have completed real estate developments throughout the southeastern United States. Having developed in several communities, I am happy to say that our most notable and valuable projects and assets are the land holdings and developments in the Cool Springs area of Franklin. These projects are anchored by Ovation and will incorporate fully integrated mixed use development components that will be dependent on a pedestrian friendly environment while intentionally encouraging and accommodating public transportation. As we are forward thinking in our current development style, I am eager to bring that same creativity to the TMA. As a member of this board, I look forward to addressing the current and future needs of public transportation in Franklin and beyond as we continue to advance transportation connections to our surrounding cities throughout middle Tennessee. It is an honor to be involved in pioneering the future of public transportation in the community that I call home.”
McGehee’s experience in commercial real estate development as an owner and developer dates back to 1994 with commercial property development projects in Nashville. In 2001, he joined The Shopping Center Group, LLC where he was promoted to President of Operations for the Tennessee division and as member of the company’s Board of Directors. In 2004, McGehee was recruited by Centex Homes-Nashville to create and implement a land strategy for acquisition, planning, and entitlement for Centex Homes in Middle Tennessee. In 2008, McGehee joined with Glenn Wilson, the founder of SouthStar, LLC as a co-partner of the real estate development company. At SouthStar, their focus has been the development of medical related assets, mixed-used developments, grocery-anchored developments and single tenant assets. Since then, they have conceived and executed leases, land purchases and developments in excess of $200 million in value. McGehee holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Economics from Lipscomb University. Currently, he is on the board of the Mt. Dora Children’s Academy and Children’s Home in Mt. Upscale Gastropub in Franklin Community
A. Marshall Family Foods Inc. announced this week plans to open a restaurant in Franklin’s Westhaven Community. The Franklin-based hospitality group has placed a contract on the Westhaven Town Center location at 158 Front Street, Suite 120, and leaders are working toward an opening in the first half of 2016. The 2,500-square-foot first floor will include a bar and grill, with a 1,250-square-foot patio anchoring the front of the restaurant. Andy Marshall, president of A. Marshall Foods, says the restaurant will have an upscale gastropub feel that provides a versatile menu and family-friendly gathering spot for the neighborhood.
“We believe in Westhaven and look forward to creating a new destination for locals — it’s just a great fit for what we’re all about,” said Marshall. “Families, people who want to have a beer and watch the game, and those who want to meet up with friends and colleagues for a great meal won’t be disappointed with what we’re planning to do.”
Marshall says his team, which is still nailing down concept specifics and menu items, will announce additional details in the coming weeks.
“We’d love suggestions from people in the community about what they want on the menu and in the restaurant — heck, even the name of the place,” he said. “It will be unique, just like Westhaven. We’ll provide details to everyone about how to weigh in, but the best bet is to follow the Puckett’s Grocery Facebook page for updated news.”
The A. Marshall Foods restaurant will be flanked by The Perch and the Westhaven Hardware Store, both of which are currently under construction.
Current tenants in the Westhaven Town Center include the Artistry Spa Salon, Freeman’s Flowers, High Brow Brew, Oscar’s Taco Shop and Westside Wine & Spirits, among others. Kroger, which acquired the Westhaven Harris Teeter earlier this year, is slated to open in the coming months.
This will be the seventh restaurant for A. Marshall Foods, which owns and operates four Puckett’s Gro. & Restaurant locations in Davidson, Hamilton, Maury and Williamson counties, as well as Puckett’s Boat House, Puckett’s Trolley, Puckett’s Events & Catering and Homestead Manor, the hospitality concept in Thompson’s Station.

Red Cross to host blood drive in honor of Oak Valley Baptist Church member
The American Red Cross and Oak Valley Baptist Church in Franklin are hosting a blood drive in honor of church member Beth Helm on Monday, Nov. 9 at the church.
Helm has been a dedicated Red Cross blood donor after she experienced a health scare as a teenager and required several pints of blood.
Helm says when she was an active, healthy 13-year-old she began hemorrhaging while at school. Over several days, she was in and out of consciousness and was eventually rushed to the hospital, where she received blood transfusions.
She says she credits the Red Cross and the people who had donated their blood with saving her life. It’s something that has motivated her to give back and become a regular blood donor herself, recently reaching the milestone of donating one gallon of blood. She says she plans to continue donating and encourages others to give, too.
“Through the years, I have thanked God for giving me this life and I have remembered to donate blood so that I can be a blessing to others in need,” Helm said.
The blood drive will be held from 2-7 p.m. at the church located at 1161 Lewisburg Pike. To make an appointment to donate, call 1 800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767), visit redcrossblood.org or download the Red Cross Blood Donor app. Walk-ins are welcome.

Final Meeting for Parks Comprehensive Master Plan
Franklin citizens are invited to the final public meeting to discuss the revisions to the Parks Comprehensive Master Plan. The plan is a comprehensive master plan that evaluates existing recreation and park facilities, provides recommendations for improvements and creates a vision for many years down the road. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 5, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the City Hall Training Room.
The public meeting will explain the revisions that have been made in the draft plan since the presentation to BOMA in June and the last public meeting on August 17. The revisions that have been made are in response to stakeholder input. The revisions primarily involve the greenway and trail segment of the plan and the capital improvement plan. All reference to priorities for implementation for the various greenway trail segments have been removed. Revisions also state that the greenway trail routes are conceptual and subject to revision based on future stakeholder input, BOMA approval and detailed design. All priorities regarding implementation of the individual capital improvement recommendations over the 10 year planning period are likewise removed. The revised plan now presents an overall vision for implementation and leaves decisions related to the priorities and timing for implementation of all plan recommendations to BOMA. The revision also separates the adoption of the Park Land Dedication Ordinance from the adoption of the master plan.
Our parks are essential components of Franklin’s quality of life. The City’s Parks Department is committed to bringing exciting and valuable activities to all Franklin residents, as well as planning and maintaining first rate parks facilities.
