“Autumn in the Oaks” Presented by Oaklands Mansion 

 

Experience the chores of the mid-1800’s through period crafts, demonstrations, games and hands-on activities when you visit Oaklands Mansion’s “Autumn in the Oaks”, slated for September 21, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the historic site, located at 900 North Maney Avenue in Murfreesboro.

This event will focus on chores of the mid-1800’s through hands-on activities for students and adults alike. Plantation activities such as clothes washing, butter churning, quill writing, and rug beating will be explored. Focus will be on learning to appreciate the work and fruits of harvest. Artisans and living history demonstrators will be on the grounds to share their crafts and talents. Other activities scheduled for the event are: scavenger hunt of the exterior of the mansion, kneading dough and limited house tours. Crafts and games for the children such as: sack races, hoops-n-sticks, graces and 1860’s dress up will also be available. 

“It gives us great pleasure to share the house museum and grounds with our community and the surrounding counties.  There are so many new members to our area that have not experienced our rich civil war history,” said Oaklands educational director, Mary Beth Nevills. Teachers and parents can look forward to this event again when they attend the “Days of Washing, Churning and Learning” on May 11, 2018. Reservations are being accepted for both fall and spring educational field days which are open to public and private school groups and home school groups.

“Autumn in the Oaks” is presented by Oaklands Mansion. Admission is $5.00 per student, $5.00 per adult and free for teachers with ten or more students. Check-in and complimentary parking will be at the Roberts Street Pavilion. This event is open to the public with reservations required for groups. Oaklands Mansion is nestled in Oaklands Park, a native tree arboretum and natural wetlands, which includes Maney Spring as well as heritage and native gardens.  Oaklands Visitors Center houses a gift shop and Maney Reception Hall for special events and temporary exhibitions.  Oaklands Mansion is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00AM – 4:00PM and Sundays 1:00PM – 4:00PM. Franklin Splash ParkHang out on shore or take a plunge with the mermaid, but watch out for pirates at the Family Beach Bash pool party, Friday, August 4 at the Franklin Recreation Complex. For one night only, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the outdoor pool deck and new splash park will become a tropical oasis with dancing, games, and contests. There will be plenty of wet and wild pool games, plus dry games for the beach bums!  If you get hungry, concessions will be on sale (cash only). This event is open to the public. Regular general admission fees apply:  $4 for adults (18-54), $2 for seniors (ages 55 and older) and youth (ages 4-17). Children ages 3 and younger are admitted free.   WCPR premium passes include admission to outdoor pools. No rafts or floats, please; pool noodles are allowed. All children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult over 18. To prepare for the bash, the pool and splash park be closed from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Franklin— Come to The Park at Harlinsdale Farm for the 10th Annual Franklin Parks’ Family Day on November 5. Family Day is a free festival open to the public, and will take place from 10 AM – 2 PM at The Park at Harlinsdale Farm, located at 239 Franklin Road, across the street from The Factory in Historic Franklin.

Franklin Parks’ Family Day offers many opportunities for families to have a great time on this historical farm. The festival features activities like miniature train rides, hay rides, pony rides, and a petting zoo. Festival attendees can also enjoy cane pole fishing in the pond. There will be inflatables, a photo booth, face painting and other farm themed photo opportunities, crafts and games. Artists Kelsey K and Hickory Rose will be performing live! All rides and activities are free to attendees.

Safe Harbor Equine & Livestock Sanctuary will be doing roping and riding demonstrations at the TSC Arena. Safe Harbor will also be doing horse mane and tail braiding demonstrations, hosting corn hole and calf roping games for prizes, and raffles. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet foster horses, sponsor a foster or sanctuary horse, and have a photo opportunity with a “unicorn.”

Food will be offered for purchase by local food vendors including Itty Bitty Donuts, Hoss’ Loaded Burger, Buns on the Run, and more.

Following Family Day, there will be a grand opening event at the new K-9 Korral Dog Park at The Park at Harlinsdale Farm. The ribbon cutting will take place at 2:15 PM, with activities happening at the dog park location throughout the Family Day event.

Many local businesses are sponsoring the event including Friends of Franklin Parks, Tractor Supply Company, K-Love, Get Fit Franklin, The Goddard School – Franklin (Cool Springs), and Dreams Do Come True Princess Parties.

The 10th Annual Family Day Celebration is presented by the City of Franklin Parks Department. The City of Franklin Parks is committed to promoting the love of nature and provide opportunities for enjoyment of the parks in Franklin. St. Patrick’s Day Party – P.A.L.S. program

The Therapeutic Recreation programs offered by Williamson County Parks and Recreation provide year-round leisure activities for individuals with developmental disabilities. Therapeutic programs are led by Therapeutic Recreation Specialists who assist people with disabilities to develop skills and knowledge for daily living and community involvement. Highlighting the March calendar are a St. Patrick’s Day party and a Throwback Thursday 1950s diner party. All programs are open to the public, and pre-registration is required. The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department will offer a St. Patrick’s Day party as part of the therapeutic recreation program at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. Enjoy games, a scavenger hunt and dinner on Thursday, March 17, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This program is for young adults and older, and the cost is $6. This is a P.A.L.S. program (People at Leisure with Support) with caregivers required to stay with those needing support. Caregivers wishing to eat are asked to register and pay the $6 program fee.
