Franklin Theatre 12TH ANNUAL MUSIC & MEMORIESONE NIGHT ONLY. Join FiftyForward Martin Center in welcoming award-winning singer songwriter Rivers Rutherford and Friends to the historic Franklin Theatre in a special evening of music. This exclusive event will benefit FiftyForward Martin Center which serves a vital need in our community by giving older adults a place to fellowship, find needed resources, and engage in community involvement. Currently, adults 65 years and older are the fastest growing demographic and the FiftyForward Martin Center is advancing their mission to meeting increased needs.

With a name like Rivers Rutherford, it’s no surprise this soulful storyteller was destined to become one of Nashville, Tennessee’s (and music’s) most talented and accomplished singer-songwriters. Having grown up in the shadow of Elvis’ Graceland homestead in Memphis, Rutherford came out of the gates swinging, landing his first cut with American legends Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson (aka The Highwaymen). What followed were eight #1 hits, multiple Grammys, CMA and ACM nominations, and over 20 ASCAP Awards, including both of the coveted awards for Country Song Of The Year and Songwriter Of The Year, all of which have firmly established Rutherford’s position within the upper echelon of Nashville’s most lauded songwriters.

You’ll see Rivers’ name on #1 songs by Tim McGraw, Montgomery Gentry, Gretchen Wilson, Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton (for the stunning and Grammy-nominated duet “When I Get Where I’m Going”), Kenny Chesney, Rodney Atkins, Trace Adkins, and Brooks & Dunn – penning the duo’s most successful single to-date (“Ain’t Nothing ‘Bout You”) which spent 6-weeks at #1 and won both 2002 Billboard and 2002 ASCAP Song Of The Year awards. Rivers has also enjoyed success with Country giants the likes of Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Reba McEntire, Toby Keith, Faith Hill, and Gary Allan.

Cab Calloway Orchestra

There will be two shows on New Year’s Eve:
The first show is a concert from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM.
The second show is a concert and dance party from 9:30 PM – 12:15 AM, and will include party favors and a champagne toast at midnight.

The whole audience bouncing and swaying to the irresistible rhythm. Everybody singing HI-DE-HO! They’re echoing the King himself, Cab Calloway, as he thrusts his baton into the air, and in his Zoot Suit, jumps, twirls and signals to the band to begin another joyous chorus. Who could forget the incredible sounds and imagery of Cab Calloway and his hot Jazz Orchestra!

The Cab Calloway Orchestra continues to delight audiences nationally from the historic jazz club “Birdland” in New York City to jazz and other venues all over the country under the baton of Cab’s grandson C. Calloway Brooks. The Calloway family has been dazzling audiences since the 1920’s and this year is no exception. Calloway Brooks, along with the Cab Calloway Orchestra deliver both the authentic sound of a hot Jazz Orchestra and a snazzy stage style-bringing out a Jump, Blues, and Boogie experience of “Swing that is king and Jive that’s alive”. Using the Calloway bands original vintage orchestrations as a starting point, coupled with the awesome musicians who have played with this big band for decades, The Cab Calloway Orchestra creates the authentic unforgettable sensation of a Modern Jazz Orchestra in full flight.

Actors from around the country converge on Franklin for red carpet premiere

Actors from as far away as New York City and Branson, Mo., converged on downtown Franklin Sunday for the red carpet premiere of the movie Providence at the historic Franklin Theatre.

The festivities began in the afternoon with red carpet photos followed by the first screening. Cast, crew, family, friends, musical artists and industry professionals packed into the theater for the first theatrical screening of the silent cinema-style romance. The screening was followed by red carpet interviews with local media. The evening closed with a second screening and more photos.

“I was very impressed by the film and its unique form of storytelling,” said attendee Johnathan Schutz.  “The amount of emotional subtlety conveyed by both the writing and the acting without the use of sound design or dialogue was excellent, and the production came together well to bring an impactful story about the grand orchestration of God in the microcosm of a couple’s love story.”

Providence is the story of Rachel Cartwright and Mitchell Little, who grow up in the small town of Providence, Tenn. Their paths keep crossing and at one point it looks like they’ll finally get together. But the opportunity slips away and they go their separate ways. It takes a tragedy many years later before they’re reunited.

This romance film is all portrayed with no dialogue, using only dramatic action and a soundtrack of eclectic indie music. It stars Rich Swingle (Beyond the Mask), Juli Tapken (Surrender), Josh Allen (Home Sweet Bus), Stacey Bradshaw (Touched by Grace), Chase Anderson (Where Hope Grows), Emily Knapp (The Good Book), and Irene Santiago (High School Musical).

Providence will be releasing to theaters nationwide on Feb. 12, 2016.
