Gary Morris

Gary Morris – The Franklin Theatre – Downtown Franklin, TN Events

The romantic ballads of Texas-born Gary Morris were staples of country radio in the1980s — none more so than “The Wind Beneath My Wings,” which was covered by Bette Midler later in the decade and became a song heard at weddings perhaps more often than any other.

From the start, Morris had a powerful voice well suited to the musical theater stage, and after his string of country hits came to an end he enjoyed a successful theatrical career. Morris didn’t give up on country music at first; he recorded 12 country albums in all, including the innovative, mostly acoustic Plain Brown Wrapper, and he notched 16 Top Ten singles.

But his role in Les Misérables evolved into a part in the show’s touring production and then in its symphonically accompanied recording. These activities took time, and Morris’ country career suffered. His live-theater activities,on the other hand, flourished; he appeared with another former progressive country singer, Linda Ronstadt, in the Broadway adaptation of Puccini’s opera La Bohème, and he spent much of the 1990s working on other pop projects such as a PBS special concert performance in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, Russia.

Morris returned to country music as a performer in Branson, MO, and as a producer in the late 90s. He has shepherded the career of his son, Matthew, and has often performed private concerts for corporate clients. Morris resides at his own fly-fishing lodge in the Colorado Rockies.

An Acoustic Evening with Pam Tillis

An Acoustic Evening with Pam Tillis – The Franklin Theatre – Downtown Franklin, TN

Take a look at Pam Tillis’ mantel and it’s lined with three CMA awards, two Grammy awards, and a shiny new IBMA award. But look a little closer and you will see snapshots of Pam’s life, memories captured with family and friends. Pictures of Pam with Dolly Parton, Tony Bennett, Clive Davis and many others who Pam once may have idolized but now consider friends. “Those relationships nurture my music, says Pam. “They’re more important than any awards.”

Pam Tillis can tell you what it is like to win big awards, run a record label, sing on Broadway, and sell platinum records, but she’d much rather change the subject to the future. “I’ve traveled a million miles in my career,” says Tillis. “The next million don’t scare me a bit.”

Playin' On The Tracks Franklin TN Franklin TheatreThe Franklin Theatre – Playin’ on the Tracks – June 14th, 2016 at 7:00pm

Playin’ on the Tracks is a compelling musical memoir of Carter Robertson’s transformation from a child of the rural church culture to a performer at the epicenter of Country Music’s “Outlaw Movement.”

As the only female member of Waylon Jennings’ band, Carter gives us a backstage pass into her, at times irreverent, but always inspiring world, where music rules, humor softens real life tragedies, and perceived failures result in redemption. It’s music and storytelling at its best.
