Iroquois Steeplechase celebrates 75 years

Nashville’s Rite of Spring Since 1941 Reaches Milestone, Celebrates Traditions

The Iroquois Steeplechase has been Nashville’s rite of spring since 1941, attracting more than 25,000 spectators to watch the best horses and riders in the world race over hurdles on a three-mile turf track. Held the second Saturday of May each year at Percy Warner Park, May 14, 2016, will mark 75 years for the Iroquois Steeplechase and more than seven decades of Music City’s annual celebration of time-honored traditions, Tennessee hospitality and Southern fashions.

Those who attend the event enjoy areas for families, well-appointed tents and individually organized tailgates where the emphasis is on race day pickings, larger-than-life hats, Honey Jack Juleps and crowd-pleasing recipes. More importantly, guests support a cause at the heart of the event: Since being designated as the official charity in 1981, Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt has received more than $10 million from Iroquois Steeplechase proceeds.

In addition, the Iroquois Steeplechase has partnered with the world-famous Cheltenham Racecourse in England to offer a $500,000 bonus challenge to any horse that can win both the Group 1 World Hurdle at Cheltenham in March and the 75th Anniversary Grade 1 Calvin Houghland Iroquois Hurdle Stakes in May–or vice versa–within a 12‐month period. The Brown Advisory Iroquois Cheltenham Challenge was coordinate with the 75th anniversary in mind, and looks to reignite the cross‐Atlantic rivalry that has been a part of steeplechase racing through history.

NYE Bash on Broadway

Music City’s New Year’s Eve Bash on Broadway has grown into one of the best New Year’s Eve parties around. It’s a free party where you can ring in the new year with amazing music and thousands of your closest friends. More people, more music, and more fun every year. We expect nothing less for the 2015 party.

Globally-acclaimed Kings Of Leon will headline, joined by hot new CMA winner Chris Stapleton, CMA-nominated Kelsea Ballerini, Sugar & The Hi-Lows, The Whigs, Wild Cub, and LANco will take to the stages. The new Music City stage will be located on Broadway in between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue. It will face the Jack Daniel’s Stage, which will continue to serve as the main stage at First and Broadway. The Music Note includes 425 light bulbs. It was designed and constructed by MadeFirst, a design and fabrication company located in Inglewood. Some 200 pounds of confetti will shower down on revelers at the stroke of midnight – the most ever for New Year’s Eve. At the stroke of midnight, the fireworks show will be the longest ever for a New Year’s celebration in Nashville, lasting approximately five minutes. Each year we take a second during the show and do a thing called the Toast, Boast, and Post. A moment when everyone takes out their phones. Holds them up. Takes a picture. Then posts on social media for all to see.

Hold My Hand

Brandy Clark’s “Hold My Hand” was announced today as a GRAMMY nominee for Country Song of the Year. The song, written by Clark and Mark Stephen Jones, is from Clark’s debut album 12 Stories, which was originally released by Slate Creek Records before being re-released by Warner Bros. Records. Clark performed the song with Dwight Yoakam earlier this year on the 2015 GRAMMY Awards in one of the night’s most talked-about moments.

Clark, who has spent much of the year working on her upcoming second album due out in 2016, said, “Wow! I was not expecting this news today. What a surprise and a fantastic way to start my week. I appreciate the support and respect from the GRAMMY voters. It means the world to me.”This is the fourth career GRAMMY nomination for Clark. She received two nominations in 2014 in the Best Country Album (12 Stories) and the all-genre Best New Artist categories, and one nomination in 2013 for Best Country Song for “Mama’s Broken Heart,” a No. 1 hit for Miranda Lambert that Clark co-wrote with Shane McAnally and Kacey Musgraves.

Clark is currently on the road with Jennifer Nettles, after opening for Alan Jackson on his “25th Anniversary Tour” earlier this year.  She won the CMA Song of the Year Award last year for “Follow Your Arrow,” which she also co-wrote with McAnally and Musgraves. She was named the 2014 Music Row Breakthrough Artist of the Year. For more information, visit BrandyClarkMusic.com.
