Construction on Hillsboro Road

Project Description
This project is the second phase of the overall Hillsboro Road Improvements Project, creating roadway and utility infrastructure upgrades to Hillsboro Road, State Route 106. Aspects of this project include:

Widening from a 2-lane roadway with shoulders to 3-lanes (includes a new center turn lane) with curb and gutter (widening is symmetrical along the roadway’s existing centerline); New 4.0’ Bike lanes on both sides;  New 3.0’ grass strip with street trees;  New 5.0’ sidewalk along both sides of the roadway, up to Claude Yates;  New street lighting along both sides using decorative street light poles;  Northbound right turn lanes (in addition to the 2 travel lanes and center turn lane) to be added in front of Franklin High School and at both of the Joel Cheek Blvd. and Claude Yates Drive Intersections;  Installing a traffic control signal at Claude Yates Drive to help with Franklin High School Traffic;  Upgrading the Joel Cheek Blvd. traffic signal;  Relocating all overhead utilities into underground duct banks;  Upgrading older and undersized water and sanitary sewer utility lines; and Installing a new storm water sewer system with catch basins and yard inlets.  These upgrades take place in both State Rights-of-Way and City/Public Easements.

Project Length & Limits
Total project length is approximately 0.827 Miles.
Beginning: Along Hillsboro Road (SR-106), by Independence Square/1200 feet north of Del Rio Pike.
Ending: Along Hillsboro Road (SR-106), just south of the Mack Hatcher Parkway (SR-397) intersection.

Construction Timeframe
The construction contract was awarded to Eutaw Construction Company in March 2016.  The contract time starts on April 18th.  You may see traffic control devices and erosion protection measures installed later in April.  Actual construction will begin in early May.  The project is scheduled to last 14 months, with completion by August 2017.  This is an aggressive schedule for the contractor to follow, considering the vast amount of utility relocation work.  The City will work closely with the local utility companies to make sure they help get this project completed in a timely manner.

Hattie Jane’s Creamery

A. MARSHALL FAMILY FOODS ROLLS OUT ANOTHER CULINARY CONCEPT

Hattie Jane’s Creamery Set to Bring Inspired Ice Cream to Columbia’s Public Square

COLUMBIA, Tenn. A. Marshall Family Foods Inc., the company behind Puckett’s Gro., Puckett’s Boat House, Homestead Manor and the modern pub concept Scout’s Pub set to open in Franklin, is adding another establishment to its portfolio of popular brands. Hattie Jane’s Creamery, an artisan ice cream shop inspired by the Marshall family’s love for the dessert, will open in downtown Columbia early this summer, with plans for a second location already in the works.

Claire Marshall Crowell, chief operating officer of A. Marshall Family Foods and the visionary behind Hattie Jane’s, says ice cream has long been a staple in her family. “It’s a Marshall thing. It’s always the comfort food for us and it’s what we do on vacation, or on a work trip to a new city. We go to the best bars and restaurants, but we also always seek out the best ice cream places.”

The creamery, named after Crowell’s daughter, will keep its selection small but unique, offering creative flavors that will feature highquality ingredients and will be absent of fillers and additives. The ice cream will be produced in small batches onsite and the recipes will at first be a collaboration between Homestead Manor Head Chef Corey King and Scout’s Pub Head Chef Keith West while the store seeks an Ice Cream Chef. Ben Stepp, general manager of Puckett’s Gro. in Columbia, will oversee operations of the creamery located next door to the restaurant.

In keeping with the downhome, familyinspiredandowned theme, Hattie Jane’s will offer homemade hot fudge and caramel syrups, freshbaked cookies for ice cream sandwiches and waffle cones made inhouse.

“Hattie Jane’s is a reflection of my family and me, and the places we most enjoy,” Crowell said. “It will be modern, but nostalgic; comfortable, but sophisticated. We think we can really push the envelope with the flavors and provide people with the unique culinary experience we’ve accomplished with our other restaurants.”

The creamery will sell pints of its ice cream instore and plans to eventually include it on the Puckett’s restaurants’ menus.

About Hattie Jane’s Creamery

Opening in summer 2016 next to Puckett’s Gro. & Restaurant in downtown Columbia, Tenn., Hattie Jane’s Creamery takes A. Marshall Family Foods. Inc.’s knack for creating an authentic Southern cooking experience for its patrons and invites them to stick around after dinner for a scoop or two of ice cream. By partnering with local farms and producing the ice cream onsite, it gives customers a true homemade, unique experience that is signature to the A. Marshall brand.

An Evening with Billy Dean

The Franklin Theatre – An Evening with Billy Dean – Wednesday, June 8th, 2016

There was a time in Billy Dean’s life when it looked like basketball was his future, not a stage. The 6’4″ singer from Florida received a basketball scholarship to attend East Central Junior College in Decatur, Miss., where he majored in physical education. But music was always courtside.

After he made the finals of the Wrangler Country Star Search in 1982 and then became a male vocalist champ on Ed McMahon’s Star Search in 1988, Billy earned a Top 5 hit in 1990 with his debut country single, “Only Here For A Little While.” His second single, “Somewhere In My Broken Heart,” also went Top 5, as did follow-up singles “You Don’t Count The Cost,” “Only The Wind” and “Billy The Kid.”

Simmons Ridge Joint Venture is the developer and Hyde Park Homes is the building company. Franklin REALTORS is the exclusive marketing and sales broker for the development. The property will contain 408 units, including Townhomes and Single Family Homes.

The beautiful rolling hills acreage was purchased in 2003 and is expected to begin construction in the next couple of weeks. Franklin Tomorrow Breakfast With Mayors

Franklin Tomorrow will take the temperature of our community on Tuesday, April 26, at the next Franklin Tomorrow Breakfast With the Mayors, presented by Pinnacle Financial Partners.
Breakfast service from Puckett’s Gro. & Restaurant and Royal Cup Coffee will begin at 7 a.m. with the program start set for 7:45 a.m.
To RSVP for the event, click here.

Franklin Mayor Ken Moore and Williamson County Mayor Rogers Anderson will be joined by Rick Johnson, CEO of the Governor’s Foundation for a Healthier Tennessee, and Leslie Meehan, Assistant Director of Primary Prevention at Tennessee Department of Health.

Their topic will be “It Takes a Community,” focusing on how communities can work together to improve the health of their citizens through initiatives as well as through the built environment.
Johnson will discuss his work with Healthier Tennessee, an initiative to improve the state’s health and in which Franklin Tomorrow has participated as a pilot community through its Get Fit Franklin Initiative.

Rick Johnson is the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Governor’s Foundation for Health and Wellness, a non-profit corporation that is leading and directing a statewide initiative to improve health outcomes in Tennessee.

He was previously Special Assistant to Gov. Bill Haslam and prior to that was Executive Vice President of Provision Healthcare. Before joining Provision, he was President of Eastern Management, a planning and project management consultancy.

In her role at the state Department of Health, Meehan’s office focuses on determinants of health related to physical activity, the built environment and transportation, healthy foods and other factors that influence health outcomes. The Office concentrates on the Big 3 + 1 (Tobacco, Physical Inactivity, Obesity and Drug Abuse) which are the largest drivers of poor health in Tennessee. Of these four, physical activity is the primary prevention strategy for the Tennessee Department of Health to improve population health.

Breakfast With the Mayors is free to attend thanks to the generosity of our partners, which include Pinnacle Financial Partners, Williamson Medical Center, Tennessee Equine Hospital, Williamson County Association of Realtors, Patterson Hardee and Ballentine P.C., Puckett’s Gro. & Restaurant, Royal Cup Coffee, and the Williamson Herald.

Franklin Tomorrow has as its mission to engage the community, foster collaboration, and advocate for a shared vision for the future of Franklin.
