Serenity and Rose Quartz

Pantone, an X-Rite company and the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, today announced PANTONE 15-3919 Serenity and PANTONE 13-1520 Rose Quartz, as the PANTONE® Color of the Year selection for 2016; a harmonious pairing of inviting shades that embody a mindset of tranquility and inner peace.

As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to the stress of modern day lives, welcoming colors that psychologically fulfill the yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more prominent. Weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, Serenity comforts with a calming effect, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times. Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure.

“With the whole greater than its individual parts, joined together Serenity and Rose Quartz demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.

The prevalent combination of Serenity and Rose Quartz also challenges some more traditional perceptions around color association.

“In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design,” said Eiseman. “This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumers’ increased comfort with using color as a form of expression which includes a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged, and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage.”

Serenity and Rose Quartz for Fashion
The combination of Serenity and Rose Quartz was featured on the runways for both men and women and highlighted in the PANTONE Fashion Color Report Spring 2016 with Emilio Pucci, Leanne Marshall, BCBG and Richard James, among others who incorporated this harmonious color pairing into their recent collections. Playful yet sophisticated, this color duo makes a striking statement on its own, though it works equally well as an accent when joined with other shades.

With playful escapism as a theme for many, the pairing of shades can be expressed through patterning, plaids, floral prints, striping and color blocking. Variations of this hue will be seen in a variety of textures that make it wearable throughout the year, from warming and comforting plush wools and faux furs to more ethereal feeling, lightweight linens and cottons.

Serenity and Rose Quartz are also a popular choice for jewelry and fashion accessories, including handbags, hats, footwear and wearable technology.

This engaging combination also works easily with other mid-tones, including cooler greens and purples. Pair with Lime Popsicle and Silver for some splash and sparkle, Old Rose for some tender nostalgia, or the velvety Fondue Fudge, which makes for a rich background.

Serenity and Rose Quartz for Beauty
The pairing offers a variety of lip, cheek and eye palette options, as well as hues for nail color. Flattering against many skin tones, beauty looks pairing the lighthearted, healthy glow of Rose Quartz, with the cool, refreshing tone of Serenity, create a soft and natural statement.

Done with a natural, light touch, the flattering pink that enhances the lip, cheek and eye, can be blended with a hint of the cool blue tone that contributes to a beautiful, neutral-based eye shadow palette, accented by classic solid nails or creative nail art that incorporates both shades in the design. Juxtapose with neons for a bold and interesting contrast. Appealing in all finishes, matte, metallic and glossy, a layer of silver sparkle creates added drama.

Serenity and Rose Quartz for Interiors
Whether on their own or combined with other shades, the pairing of Serenity and Rose Quartz bring a feeling of calm and relaxation into the home environment. Like a serene sunset, Rose Quartz encourages reflection on one’s surroundings while Serenity, a transcendent blue, provides a naturally connected sense of space.

An ideal choice for rugs and upholstery, Serenity and Rose Quartz also work well in paint and for decorative accessories. Coupling solid and patterned fabrics, throws, pillows and bedding in these shades provides a comforting respite and feeling of well-being in the home. Incorporating texture enhances the duality and kinship of these hues.

Serenity and Rose Quartz colored kitchen items and tableware, as well as home accessories like candles, decorative bowls, vases and florals, add subtle color accents while contributing to a welcoming and peaceful space. Translucent, glazing, matte and metallic shine are key finishes.

Serenity and Rose Quartz for Graphic Design
Strong, yet calming, romantic yet subtle, consumers are immediately drawn to this combination, making it an enticing shade for a variety of products from food and beverage to cosmetics and accessories. With packaging becoming increasingly more tied into lifestyle color trends, the combination of Serenity and Rose Quartz is a natural fit for many kinds of packaging materials.

About the PANTONE Color of the Year

The Color of the Year selection process requires thoughtful consideration and trend analysis. To arrive at the selection each year, Pantone’s color experts at the Pantone Color Institute comb the world looking for new color influences. Influences may also stem from new technologies, materials, textures and effects that impact color, relevant social media platforms and even up-coming sporting events that capture worldwide attention. For 16 years, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home furnishings and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design. The full story from Brandy Blanton.

The truth is it was never my dream to be a magazine publisher. My main goal in life was always to be a mother; apart from that I didn’t have any professional aspirations. But I should have known, that coming from a family of entrepreneurs, it was inevitable I would someday do the same. My first venture was an ironing business I ran out of my home called Pressing Matters.

I charged $1 an item, offered pick-up and delivery and it was said I was priceless to the school teachers, working mothers and music industry clientele who helped me to be able to stay at home with my three small children at the age of 21.But after a few years, I needed to get out of the house, so I applied for a job at O’Charley’s as a hostess. My goal was to continue to stay home with my kids during the day and work evenings. Little did I know that job would last 12 years – through a divorce, a remarriage and two more children. The restaurant business subjects you to all walks of life and you don’t get to choose who crosses your path. I worked almost every position in the building during my tenure, but the biggest thing I learned was how to interact and enjoy a myriad of people.

The magazine career was introduced by way of my brother, Todd. He and a partner were publishing a coupon magazine called Metro Mail. And just like everyone else, they saw the promise expanding to Williamson County; and I was tagged for the job. After much debate, I said I would give it a try, but not until school was out because I still had a three-year-old at home and I wasn’t about to change my model of being a stay-at-home-mom during the day. Long story short, I had a blast that summer of 2002: meeting clients, going on lunch appointments, experiencing a new world, feeling that I had value as more than just a mom. Metro Mail dissolved after that one issue, but Todd approached me that same fall about doing another publication. We would combine the costs of graphics and printing, but he wanted to do another coupon magazine. While I enjoyed the work, I felt that a coupon magazine had no substance. And so Southern Exposure Magazine was birthed.

My only qualification for becoming a magazine publisher was that I wrote a mean letter and I knew a lot of people. The success we’ve had can only be attributed to one thing—God has blessed this venture, enabling me to learn a lot along the way and bringing me the best people to help. To have a job that exists to celebrate and record what goes on in my home of more than 30 years—to promote the heart of Williamson County—is more than I could have imagined.

… FAST FORWARD to 2012

It’s been several months since we’ve been here together – since our October/November 2011 issue to be exact – and man, I’ve missed you! If you’re reading SEM for the first time, we’ve been on a sabbatical looking for just the right recipe to continue to serve our Williamson County family and beyond after 10 YEARS of publishing.  There was a time I wondered if a chapter in my life had closed. It took me getting to the place of knowing that I would survive whatever the outcome was, but thankfully, God had a different plan.

Not only am I back doing something that I love – promoting my home – but I am a part of a team whose mission mirrors my own. In June, Southern Exposure Magazine was purchased by the Williamson Herald’s parent company, CMD Publishing.  Williamson Herald owner and publisher, Derby Jones and I are finally able to realize our dream of working together! derby-and-brandy-3

I am blessed that Derby has confidence in my capabilities and has allowed me to continue as publisher of “my baby.” And while the lion’s share of our incredibly talented staff remains (thankfully), one huge adjustment is the loss of Nancy Nanney, our art director who has been with me since the second issue.  She has been such a vital part of SEM – way beyond the aesthetics and creativity she brought to each page. She anticipated my shortcomings, loved me anyway and was a champion for the cause WITHOUT FAIL.  How do you fault someone whose life is being called in a different direction – a move back to her hometown in Mississippi to be close to family and the urge to start a new career as a teacher?

Another big change for me was moving back into an office environment after working out of my home the last two years. I forgot how great it was to have people to bounce ideas off of (thank you Donna) and have a space that is meant for work. Home can now be home again!

And while my biggest responsibility is to pour into my family, it’s a gift to be given a platform to speak to thousands of people in my community. My message to you is …

In a time where we exist on instant gratification at the click of a keypad or mouse, don’t lose the opportunity to slow down your pace and soak in the stories of your community. Pick up a copy of Southern Exposure Magazine, or even better – subscribe.

Brandy Clark’s “Hold My Hand” was announced today as a GRAMMY nominee for Country Song of the Year. The song, written by Clark and Mark Stephen Jones, is from Clark’s debut album 12 Stories, which was originally released by Slate Creek Records before being re-released by Warner Bros. Records. Clark performed the song with Dwight Yoakam earlier this year on the 2015 GRAMMY Awards in one of the night’s most talked-about moments.

Clark, who has spent much of the year working on her upcoming second album due out in 2016, said, “Wow! I was not expecting this news today. What a surprise and a fantastic way to start my week. I appreciate the support and respect from the GRAMMY voters. It means the world to me.”This is the fourth career GRAMMY nomination for Clark. She received two nominations in 2014 in the Best Country Album (12 Stories) and the all-genre Best New Artist categories, and one nomination in 2013 for Best Country Song for “Mama’s Broken Heart,” a No. 1 hit for Miranda Lambert that Clark co-wrote with Shane McAnally and Kacey Musgraves.

Clark is currently on the road with Jennifer Nettles, after opening for Alan Jackson on his “25th Anniversary Tour” earlier this year.  She won the CMA Song of the Year Award last year for “Follow Your Arrow,” which she also co-wrote with McAnally and Musgraves. W. Frierson Contractor Inc. Announces Completion

T. W. Frierson Contractor Inc. (TWF), a Nashville-based, family-owned general contractor specializing in commercial, industrial, distribution and institutional facilities throughout the Southeast, announces the recent completion of construction on the new Franklin First United Methodist Church, located at 120 Aldersgate Way at Mack Hatcher Parkway in Franklin, Tenn.

Construction for the 86,500 square-foot, First Franklin United Methodist Church facility began in Summer 2014, and nearly 16 months later its first Sunday worship services were held on December 6, 2015. The first service was completely full, and the second service provided standing room only.

W. Frierson has completed over 150 faith-based facilities in its 57 year history, and this facility is its largest church project to date, according to project executive Del Hickman, co-owner, executive vice president. Hickman explains, “It was a great privilege to partner with Franklin First United Methodist Church and Tuck Hinton to build this beautiful landmark. I was there for the first service, and to see the reactions and hear all the positive comments from the congregation was incredible.”

The TWF team for this project also includes Matt Taylor, senior project manager and director of operations; and Tim Foriest, project superintendent. Steve Johnson, with Tuck-Hinton Architects, a Nashville-based PLC corporation, is the architect on the project.

The First Franklin United Methodist Church facility is constructed on 107 acres of a former horse farm, which was purchased in 2007. The new campus facility includes a main worship center that seats around 850, 50 classrooms and multiuse spaces for ministry and community outreach. In addition to the various high-end finishes throughout the building, gothic architect curtain wall systems were installed on the building to reflect the churches’ original historic sanctuary, Circa 1872.

The building also has prominent space for the church’s popular preschool program and a children’s area. Office space focuses on the daily church operations, and the well-equipped kitchen is vital to the ongoing ministries of the church.

Franklin First was founded 1799 in downtown Franklin and was housed in a facility completed in 1872 on Fifth Avenue South until it outgrew its space. While maintaining its ownership of that facility, the congregation is continuing to hold one 8:30 a.m. service in that facility each Sunday. The church is also leasing the church space for the use of Generations Church of Franklin. The church is currently under the leadership of Dr. Lynn Hill, senior pastor since 2002.

Founded in 1958, T. W. Frierson Contractor Inc. is dedicated to the ideals of honesty and integrity while providing quality construction services that exceed customer’s expectations. Emphasizing a team approach, T. W. Frierson Contractor, Inc. offers general construction, design-build and construction management services, tailoring these programs to meet each client’s individual needs. TEXAS A&M TO FACE LOUISVILLE IN THE 18th ANNUAL FRANKLIN AMERICAN MORTGAGE MUSIC CITY BOWL

Kickoff will be Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 6:00 p.m. CST at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. The game will be televised live on ESPN.

“This year’s matchup between Texas A&M and Louisville carries on our tradition of hosting some of the best college football programs in the country,” said Dan Crockett, President/CEO of Franklin American Mortgage Company. “In our six years as title sponsor, the game has always made a significant economic impact on the city while bringing national recognition to our company. It also provides us with an opportunity to give back through the many Bowl-related charities we support. Both Texas A&M and Louisville have loyal and dedicated fans, and we’re proud to welcome them to Nashville.”

Texas A&M comes into the game sporting an 8-4 overall record, 4-4 in conference play.  The Aggies boast the fourth best offense in the SEC, gaining 423 yards per game. Coach Kevin Sumlin has led the Aggies to three straight bowl wins. This will represent the Aggies seventh consecutive bowl appearance overall.

Louisville finished the regular season 7-5 and will be appearing in their sixth consecutive bowl game.  The Cardinals won seven of their last nine regular season games. The sixth straight postseason appearance marks their longest streak since their run of nine consecutive bowl game appearances from 1998-2006.

The 2015 game marks the second year of new six-year conference agreements in which the SEC will take on either the ACC or Big Ten in Nashville each year. Last year, Notre Dame defeated LSU 31-28 in the front of a crowd of 60,419 attendees.

Texas A&M and Louisville have met on the gridiron a total of three times in their history.  The series is in Texas A&M’s favor at 3-0.  This is the first time the two have played against each other since 1994, a game that saw Texas A&M come away with a 26-10 victory.

Established in 1998, the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl has transformed the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day into one of the city’s busiest times of the year for tourism. Since its inception, the Bowl has produced nearly $270 million in direct economic impact to Nashville.
