This year spectators at the Franklin Rodeo will enjoy seeing local cowboys in the arena roping and riding for prize money and points.
Team ropers JC Burns from Arrington and Tom Bourne from Culleoka will compete in the calf roping event, and Page High School graduate Houston Herbert will compete in the bareback riding event on Friday evening.
Herbert has a reputation for sticking to his horse. He holds two state high school Rodeo Bucking Horse Championship titles.
Riding a bucking bronc may be in his blood – his father rode them – but the desire is all Herbert’s.
“It comes natural, but I put in a lot of work to get good at it,” he said. “I always try to make a perfect ride, but I never think it’s as good as it can be.”
