Starlight-Jam-Franklin TN 2015Fairview Parks Department has announced the schedule for the upcoming Starlight Jams at Bowie Nature Park. The Starlight Jams are a whole new concert series that include picking parties. Performers include a mix of local, regional, and national performers all in the Americana and Bluegrass type genera.

October 23rd Natchez Tracers an Americana rock-n-roll band will close out this year’s Starlight Jam series. They describe themselves as Cosmic Country Funk echoed from the meandering, verdant hills of Central Tennessee.

Starlight Jams are Friday nights running through October. The events are from 7:00-10:00PM. Each month will include live Americana music on the main stage. Pickers are encouraged to bring their instruments and find a spot under the trees to jam. The goal is to provide a place for musicians to get together and play and for music lovers to have a place to go and enjoy great music in a laid back, family friendly environment under the stars.

Gates open at 6:30pm. A suggested donation of $5/adult is requested. All money collected will go back in to the music program at Bowie Nature Park. Park Staff recommends you bring your own blankets and folding chairs. You could even bring a picnic dinner or snack. Water and soft drinks will be available for purchase. The event is rain or shine. The event will be moved inside in case of inclement weather.

Take your pick of tasty treats at the second “Take the Cake” fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, at the historic Williamson County Courthouse in downtown Franklin. The pickings will be especially good this year with Mike Wolfe acting as master of ceremonies. You know Mike as the creator and co-star of “American Pickers” on the History Channel and now as creator of HGTV’s new show “Nashville Flipped.” The New York Times refers to Mike as “the Jack Kerouac of Junk.”

Proceeds from the event support the Williamson County DUI Court. The court serves as a constructive alternative for offenders with alcohol and drug abuse problems and offers treatment, supervision, and support for nonviolent offenders who have a primary diagnosis of alcohol abuse or dependency. Williamson County DUI Court is a team concept involving the General Sessions Court, the offices of the Public Defender and District Attorney, and the Defense Bar.

Barktoberfest Franklin TNCelebrating its 7th year, Barktoberfest™ is Nashville’s costumed fall festival for dogs and their people! Hosted by Nashville Paw magazine, this event won third place for “BEST FESTIVAL” in The Tennessean’s 2013 Toast of Music City Awards and draws an estimated 3,000 guests and their pooch pals from across Middle Tennessee.

This year, the festival moves to the sprawling grounds of The Park at Harlinsdale Farm, in a new partnership with the City of Franklin Parks. This new partnership will allow the festival room to grow as well as a much-needed perk that has been lacking at previous venues: on-site free parking!

As always, Barktoberfest will feature food trucks, a pet adoption fair featuring local rescue groups and shelters, and 40+ vendor booths to browse and shop. There will also be plenty of fun activities for dogs and the whole family (click the “schedule” tab above for more details).

We’re excited about this year’s musical lineup, which includes Nashville’s own Emily Earle and Eight O’ Five Jive returning to the stage, as well as national touring band Jack and The Bear. (More about these bands under the “schedule” tab above.)

Of course, the highlight of Barktoberfest is always our Howl-O-Ween Costume Contests, where humans and pooch pals alike compete for over $2,000 in fun and fabulous prizes! Costume contests are $10 per entry per contest, and include 3 contests this year: a Kids Costume Contest (ages 12 and under), a Dog Costume Contest and our Dog + Human Costume Combo Contest.

Don’t miss Middle Tennessee’s most fun and festive fall event! Leash up your pooch pal and bring the whole family in costume for an afternoon of fun and a chance at some great prizes!
